Most Brides (and some grooms) have thought about their wedding day for many many years, when it should be, how beautiful it will be, and how much fun it will be. One of the primary questions we ask our clients when we sit down with them is “What do you imagine for your wedding entertainment?” Most of them seem to not have even given it much thought. They simply say “We just want our guests to have fun”. DONE! That’s easy. However, we like to take it a step further and get to know our clients in order to create their wedding entertainment based on their imagination. Thus begins our follow up questions in order to get to know more about general taste and personality traits. These are just a few of the reasons our clients rave about what we do.
The entertainment factor for your wedding should be held in very high regard. We are sure you’ve heard the phrase “A DJ will make or break your wedding”. This is completely true. The quality you should expect in your wedding dj shouldn’t be something that you simply decide on (Especially Not Based On Price!). Do your research! Find out about backgrounds, experience, previous employment, etc. Your DJ should be just as professional as they are talented. Without doing your research, you may be gambling with the actual outcome of what you’ve imagined your big day to be.
Over the past 5 years, our company has been involved in thousands of weddings. We aren’t just a DJ company, we are constantly working within the wedding industry. We also operate a Chair Cover company, a Photo Booth Company, manage and operate two banquet halls, and as of recently we are beginning our Catering Company. Book That DJ has recently opened a branch in Findlay/Lima and we are working on opening another branch in Chicago. We have seen it all, not just high energy and fun weddings, but the more formal and reserved weddings as well. Every bride and groom is different and we treat each and every wedding we are involved in with the uniqueness that each couple exemplifies. So when it comes down to your big day, it’s all about what you imagine. We can create whatever feel/vibe/energy you want for your wedding. Our DJs specialize in creating a very fun atmosphere.
We here at Book That DJ bring a level of personalization, expertise, attention to detail, and creativity that is unlike any other wedding dj or wedding dj company you will find. We have talents that most DJ companies simply don’t. That’s because we aren’t just “Weekend Warriors”. Meaning, we don’t just do weddings on the weekends and go through the motions. We won’t just send a “DJ” to your wedding with an itinerary. Our company also DJs throughout the week at several locations. And we train every week, during the week.
Our DJs are constantly learning new ways to transition songs, program songs, and get even more creative. Our office is equipped with a set up for us to showcase to our clients what we do, as well as utilize during our more informational DJ meetings. We manage two banquet halls in the area and we utilize those spaces for practicing set ups, microphone work, sound perfection, and more. You won’t get an out of practice DJ, or a fresh DJ, or a DJ that just “fills in” from our team. We are exactly that, a team. Each member being pushed just as much as the next to ensure our company maintains a level of service that will blow you away. This is why we are such an exclusive company.
After meeting qualifications in order to be considered to represent the Book That DJ team, our DJs then go through a rigorous and extensive training period before they are even granted the opportunity to handle any event. We train, we quiz, we work together, we push and challenge each other to become even better aw what we do. Imagine a sports team and the skill sets they develop and sharpen throughout training camp in order to produce results for game day. Even throughout the season, we still train.
Are you on the fence of deciding to book either a Band or a DJ for your big day? Are you set on booking just a band? Here’s why you should consider doing BOTH!
First Thing’s First… Your Budget!
When creating your wedding budget, things can add up quickly and get you a little stressed out. It’s ok, that’s normal. You want to create a budget that works best for you. However, one thing you should definitely keep in mind is the Entertainment section of your budget. This is THE MOST IMPORTANT element of a Wedding! Here’s why…
1. You can have the most beautiful decorations, the most succulent food, at the most elegant venue. But, if your entertainment element is Sub Par or Unprofessional, your guests will simply have an “OK” time, or not a good time at all. And… if your DJ (or Band) plain old “sucks”, your guests will probably leave early or complain. Nobody wants to remember a bad wedding.
2. You can have chicken nuggets on paper plates in a back yard… and if your DJ (Or Band) ROCKS, you had the BEST WEDDING OF THE YEAR!
If it’s in your budget to book a band for your wedding, you might want to consider adding a DJ as well. Not just any DJ, a Professional Wedding DJ. Most bands can definitely Jam Out and create a high energy vibe for you and your guests. However, many times the general flow of events throughout the evening, as well as the hosting aspect (keeping all of your guests informed and interested) falls to the way side. Bands have to take breaks throughout the evening, this is the perfect opportunity for a Professional DJ to keep your guests energized and having as much fun as possible.
BE AWARE: Some Wedding Bands will claim that they have a “DJ”. However this is, in most cases, simply not true. This idea of a “DJ” is simply a playlist put together to play during the bands breaks. This play list is played in some random order simply to play music.
SOLUTION: Hiring A Professional Wedding DJ that will be able to read the vibe of your guests and play music in a perfect order to keep them on the dance floor, as well as Beat-matching songs and playing the music that the band doesn’t have planned in their set list. We work closely with Wedding Bands and make sure we aren’t playing the songs that they plan on playing.
***These situations don’t happen with all bands. However, it has been our experience that Professional Bands LOVE when one of our Professional MC’s/DJ’s handles the Timeline and the Energy (essentially what we do best), so they can do what they do best. ROCK OUT!
As a Professional Wedding DJ company, it pains us to say that we can not recreate the feel of Live Music. There’s simply nothing like it. However, when it comes down to it, Most Bands can’t do what a DJ does either; such as: beatmatch songs together, emcee/host, switch songs abruptly, change play list on the fly, interact with Bride and Groom/Guests while music is playing, and more. Don’t get us wrong, we aren’t trying to discredit bands at all. The point of this is to provide the proper information for you in order to help you with your entertainment decision for one of the biggest days in your life.
Is a band in your budget? If so, DEFINITELY Book a Band. But also add a DJ to handle the other elements that are important for entertaining your wedding guests. Don’t just book a band (See Be Aware Above). Most bands will lower their price when working with a Professional Wedding DJ, because they will play less music and have way less responsibility for the evening. Same goes for a DJ, we definitely lower our rates when working with a band.

In a few more words… Your Wedding DJ, Birthday Party DJ, or Any other Type of “Special Event” DJ is in charge of keeping everything running smooth and maintaining a level of Entertainment throughout the evening. This is a lot of responsibility for a person to handle. Not only should your DJ play great music, he/she should also continuously check on the client and their guests in order to proved top notch service. All of our DJs ensure great customer service. Think of your Event DJ as a Server at your favorite restaurant. He/She is in charge of.. checking if you need anything, ensuring the product (music and sound quality) is up to standards, keeping a positive and friendly demeanor, and so much more.
How much should I tip my Event DJ?
In a few more words… It all depends on the level of service maintained throughout the evening. If you and your guests were impressed with the quality of the evening, anywhere from 10%-20% of the Service Price is customary. Then, going along with the “Server at your favorite restaurant” idea, if anything is sub-quality, decrease accordingly. The reason we said “Anything”, is because… Our DJs thrive on performance excellence and enjoy being “rewarded” for their efforts. Even a $5 bill is better than nothing at all.
Don’t get it wrong tho, if you don’t tip your DJ, he/she will still be happy (as long as they are professionals). We all as DJs consider ourselves in the “Service Industry” and therefore would like to be tipped as well. But, we understand that some people don’t quite know that.
So in short, if your DJ takes care of your event, take care of your DJ. If not, he/she will still be awesome.
