Be my guest.

A wedding professionals perspective as a wedding guest.

Working so many weddings every year as a professional wedding dj, managing 2 banquet halls, operating our photo booth, and providing chair covers for weddings, it’s very rare that we get to attend any as Guests. But, it just so happened we received an invite this year to a wedding on a date that we had nothing booked. So we were excited to be able to make an adventure out of it.

Wedding Atrire men

The perfect attire.

As a wedding DJ I want to dress accordingly so I blend in with the wedding party or the wedding as a whole, so I don’t stick out like a sore thumb. So as a guest I had to take a different approach. I’ve seen it all from the jeans and t-shirt guy to the too over the top guy with a full three piece suit and a fedora. I knew I had to find a comfortable medium that is appropriate for me to blend in with the guests. So I decided to get a new suit fitted with all the appropriate accessories to achieve the successful classy guy look. A nice simple patterned suit with neutral colors so as to not stand out too much but just enough to be slightly noticed. A bright white pattern tie that pops. When a bride and groom invite you to enjoy their big day with them, you want to make sure you look your best. At least that is what we believe.

The Long Journey To The Wedding

As we journeyed along our 9 hour drive into the UP, the most important thing I wanted to prepare for was to not be overly critical and get in to “work mode”. Knowing that there are some very bad wedding DJs out there, I worried that the night would not flow well and I would get sucked in to analyzing it. So my fiancé and I said we weren’t going to talk about work or the wedding aspects until afterwards in our hotel room as to not spoil any potential fun we may have.
The night before (Friday) there was a big Family Event for my Fiances Father, so he hired me to DJ as well as set up our photo booth. The event ran late in to the evening and we had to still tear down then go home and finish packing. With very little sleep we woke early with excitement to start our “Road Trip”. We decided to take turns driving every two hours. Our GPS put us at the hotel about an hour before the cocktail hour. This allowed us just enough time to check in, unpack, and get ready. However, to our surprise (since we didn’t do much planning), as we got closer the GPS and our iPhones dropped an hour off of our trip! We hadn’t taken in to account that we would be in a different time zone. Yay, just enough time for a power nap before the festivities.

wedding dancingWhat a great experience.

It was definitely hard at times to not analyze certain aspects of the evening. However, we pushed through them and realized that those things don’t even matter to most guests. Just relaxing and simply being a wedding guest was so much fun. We made sure we were on the dance floor as much as possible, enjoyed the food so much, and even had some drinks with the bride and groom. When people asked about how our business is going, we made sure to keep it brief and not get in to any in depth conversations. Before we left, I congratulated the DJ on a job well done and briefly explained what we do. I made sure to wait till we were about to leave before I mentioned it because I didn’t want to make him nervous or have him think about whether I would be critiquing his work. He did a wonderful job and I actually learned some different things to incorporate in to what we do. The biggest thing I learned as a wedding guest is that it definitely goes by much faster than I thought. Before we knew it, we were in a cab on the way back to the Hotel for some after party cocktails.

Now back in the car for the long long journey home. We hope you enjoyed our article. While you’re here, check out our article on how to Invest Your Time And Avoid Wedding Nightmares.

Invest Your Time And Avoid Wedding Nightmares

Want a stress free wedding? Sure, everyone does. Here are some tips to ensure that your big day will be stress free.

He took the time to get a ring and planed how to ask for your hand in marriage. The mood was set, he popped the question, and then came the excitement! There will be a wedding! You get to bring all of your friends and family to one place for the biggest occasion of your life. You get to be treated like a queen and have more fun then you could possibly imagine. Your separate families now become one! You can’t believe how lucky you are that you’re about to marry the love of your life and planning the ultimate party to celebrate with the people you both love.

wedding nightmares, wedding tips, wedding planning, toledo wedding planningSounds easy, doesn’t it? Well, anyone who has planned a wedding and those of us professionals within the wedding industry know that it can easily become one of the most stressful things you will ever do. The nightmares begin a few months prior to the big day of everything imaginable going wrong. Then you can’t seem to get a hold of important vendors that are supposed to be providing their services for your big day. Maybe some of them even start creating unnecessary stress by changing their policies or procedures. What if they have simply gone out of business? Sounds dreadful doesn’t it? Well not as dreadful as things actually going wrong on the big day and leaving those lasting memories that will haunt you for longer than you would imagine.

Well, here are two great tips to help you be stress free and avoid unnecessary nightmares.

1. Invest Your Time in finding the perfect vendors for your big day!

You cannot get to know what a company is like simply by asking them their price. Do your research, read reviews, and schedule an official meeting. Don’t pigeonhole yourself in to only selecting a wedding professional that is under a certain price point. You may be missing out on the best day of your life by merely saving a little bit in one area of your budget. If the wedding professional is worth it and can alleviate the unnecessary stress but is a few dollars more than you planned, you may just want to adjust your budget. The only way to find out who is perfect for your big day is to invest your time and meet with as many professionals as you can. Meeting with your prospective vendors is the most important way to weed out those that may look good on paper but are unprofessional and may cause you nightmares.

What to look for: Do they have a good reputation among other vendors? What are their accomplishments? Do they avoid meeting you? Do they show up late to the meeting or reschedule last minute? How are they dressed for this meeting? Pay attention to demeanor and body language. Are they meeting you at an official meeting place? Have they prepared a presentation to cover all of the questions you may have or may have not even thought of? How long have they been in business? What do they say about other vendors in their respective fields? Most importantly do they care about what your needs are and want to fit the overall view you have for your big day?

hire a wedding planner2. Hire or Consult an official Wedding Planner

Official Wedding Planners know suggestions to make on who and what would be perfect for your big day. Make sure you do your research on the wedding planner as well in order to ensure they have a valued professional opinion. We aren’t saying to hire your cousin or best friend to be your “Wedding Planner”.  If you are able to do it, hire an official wedding planner for your big day. Not only will they know the right vendors to choose, they will also take care of handling all of the unnecessary stress that may arise during the planning process and even on the big day. A real wedding planner will also be able to save money within your budget because they already have established relationships with professional vendors.
