Want a stress free wedding? Sure, everyone does. Here are some tips to ensure that your big day will be stress free.
He took the time to get a ring and planed how to ask for your hand in marriage. The mood was set, he popped the question, and then came the excitement! There will be a wedding! You get to bring all of your friends and family to one place for the biggest occasion of your life. You get to be treated like a queen and have more fun then you could possibly imagine. Your separate families now become one! You can’t believe how lucky you are that you’re about to marry the love of your life and planning the ultimate party to celebrate with the people you both love.
Sounds easy, doesn’t it? Well, anyone who has planned a wedding and those of us professionals within the wedding industry know that it can easily become one of the most stressful things you will ever do. The nightmares begin a few months prior to the big day of everything imaginable going wrong. Then you can’t seem to get a hold of important vendors that are supposed to be providing their services for your big day. Maybe some of them even start creating unnecessary stress by changing their policies or procedures. What if they have simply gone out of business? Sounds dreadful doesn’t it? Well not as dreadful as things actually going wrong on the big day and leaving those lasting memories that will haunt you for longer than you would imagine.
Well, here are two great tips to help you be stress free and avoid unnecessary nightmares.
You cannot get to know what a company is like simply by asking them their price. Do your research, read reviews, and schedule an official meeting. Don’t pigeonhole yourself in to only selecting a wedding professional that is under a certain price point. You may be missing out on the best day of your life by merely saving a little bit in one area of your budget. If the wedding professional is worth it and can alleviate the unnecessary stress but is a few dollars more than you planned, you may just want to adjust your budget. The only way to find out who is perfect for your big day is to invest your time and meet with as many professionals as you can. Meeting with your prospective vendors is the most important way to weed out those that may look good on paper but are unprofessional and may cause you nightmares.
What to look for: Do they have a good reputation among other vendors? What are their accomplishments? Do they avoid meeting you? Do they show up late to the meeting or reschedule last minute? How are they dressed for this meeting? Pay attention to demeanor and body language. Are they meeting you at an official meeting place? Have they prepared a presentation to cover all of the questions you may have or may have not even thought of? How long have they been in business? What do they say about other vendors in their respective fields? Most importantly do they care about what your needs are and want to fit the overall view you have for your big day?
Official Wedding Planners know suggestions to make on who and what would be perfect for your big day. Make sure you do your research on the wedding planner as well in order to ensure they have a valued professional opinion. We aren’t saying to hire your cousin or best friend to be your “Wedding Planner”. If you are able to do it, hire an official wedding planner for your big day. Not only will they know the right vendors to choose, they will also take care of handling all of the unnecessary stress that may arise during the planning process and even on the big day. A real wedding planner will also be able to save money within your budget because they already have established relationships with professional vendors.

Are you on the fence of deciding to book either a Band or a DJ for your big day? Are you set on booking just a band? Here’s why you should consider doing BOTH!
First Thing’s First… Your Budget!
When creating your wedding budget, things can add up quickly and get you a little stressed out. It’s ok, that’s normal. You want to create a budget that works best for you. However, one thing you should definitely keep in mind is the Entertainment section of your budget. This is THE MOST IMPORTANT element of a Wedding! Here’s why…
1. You can have the most beautiful decorations, the most succulent food, at the most elegant venue. But, if your entertainment element is Sub Par or Unprofessional, your guests will simply have an “OK” time, or not a good time at all. And… if your DJ (or Band) plain old “sucks”, your guests will probably leave early or complain. Nobody wants to remember a bad wedding.
2. You can have chicken nuggets on paper plates in a back yard… and if your DJ (Or Band) ROCKS, you had the BEST WEDDING OF THE YEAR!
If it’s in your budget to book a band for your wedding, you might want to consider adding a DJ as well. Not just any DJ, a Professional Wedding DJ. Most bands can definitely Jam Out and create a high energy vibe for you and your guests. However, many times the general flow of events throughout the evening, as well as the hosting aspect (keeping all of your guests informed and interested) falls to the way side. Bands have to take breaks throughout the evening, this is the perfect opportunity for a Professional DJ to keep your guests energized and having as much fun as possible.
BE AWARE: Some Wedding Bands will claim that they have a “DJ”. However this is, in most cases, simply not true. This idea of a “DJ” is simply a playlist put together to play during the bands breaks. This play list is played in some random order simply to play music.
SOLUTION: Hiring A Professional Wedding DJ that will be able to read the vibe of your guests and play music in a perfect order to keep them on the dance floor, as well as Beat-matching songs and playing the music that the band doesn’t have planned in their set list. We work closely with Wedding Bands and make sure we aren’t playing the songs that they plan on playing.
***These situations don’t happen with all bands. However, it has been our experience that Professional Bands LOVE when one of our Professional MC’s/DJ’s handles the Timeline and the Energy (essentially what we do best), so they can do what they do best. ROCK OUT!
As a Professional Wedding DJ company, it pains us to say that we can not recreate the feel of Live Music. There’s simply nothing like it. However, when it comes down to it, Most Bands can’t do what a DJ does either; such as: beatmatch songs together, emcee/host, switch songs abruptly, change play list on the fly, interact with Bride and Groom/Guests while music is playing, and more. Don’t get us wrong, we aren’t trying to discredit bands at all. The point of this is to provide the proper information for you in order to help you with your entertainment decision for one of the biggest days in your life.
Is a band in your budget? If so, DEFINITELY Book a Band. But also add a DJ to handle the other elements that are important for entertaining your wedding guests. Don’t just book a band (See Be Aware Above). Most bands will lower their price when working with a Professional Wedding DJ, because they will play less music and have way less responsibility for the evening. Same goes for a DJ, we definitely lower our rates when working with a band.

At Book That DJ, we thrive on creating fun and memorable weddings! Here are 5 great tips to having the best wedding of the year! Your guests will be talking about how much fun they had and how epic it was for years to come.
Most couples get lost in conversation going around thanking every individual person for coming and this can take up a good portion of your reception. You should most definitely make each person feel like they are important for being there, but there are many ways of doing so. This is where your DJ comes in play. A great way to do this is by Dedicating songs to certain groups of people (not just individuals, others may feel left out) in attendance. Coordinate with the DJ and personally make announcements throughout the evening that way all of your guests feel like you care about them. We have even heard of a couple that had a small cake at every table instead of having one cake at a cake table. Then, after dinner they went around cutting each cake in front of their guests as a way to share a moment with them and thank them for coming. When they clap and congratulate you, you simply thank the whole table and tell them to enjoy the rest of the cake while making your way to the next table.
Make sure your bridal party knows that they aren’t there to just be at the head table and dress alike. Your bridal party can be a very important element of your wedding and too many times they are underutilized. One thing is a fact… when the bridal party is on the Dance Floor, more people come out to the dance floor. Nobody wants to dance alone in front of hundreds of people. The bridal party already has a “Group”. Challenge your bridal party with the task of making sure people have fun. Most of your bridal party usually knows a lot of the guests at the reception, make sure they engage those guests for you as your representatives. Give them games to play with your guests, like trivia. Let them have a say in the music ahead of time. Maybe even get them to choreograph a dance routine to entertain your guests. A fun bridal party makes for an even better wedding reception.
Many couples are already creative and get excited about adding their own personal touch to their wedding day. However, we have found that the focus of creative energy is used primarily on decorations and favors. Not that you should not have creative decorations and favors, we encourage you to take it a step further. Create fun and engaging elements with your guests. Another fun idea to engage your guests that we have seen over the past year is to allow all of your guests to come out for the Bouquet and Garter Toss. Then giving a gift to whomever catches each. Try to think of fun games you can play with your guests, or even hiding their “take home memento” under their seats and having them all reach down and grab it.
Of course you knew this was coming. And rightfully so. The DJ is the MOST IMPORTANT Part of your reception. Many people don’t realize this until it is too late. Your DJ will make or break your wedding. It’s that simple. You can have the best wedding decorations, most elegant banquet hall, or mouth watering food, but if your DJ is terrible, that is all your guests will remember. This works both ways… you can have paper plates and plastic ware in a barn with chicken nuggets, but if your DJ is amazing, you had the Best Wedding Ever! When we say DJ, we don’t just mean the music. A great Wedding DJ not only provides and controls the musical element of the evening perfectly, but also controls the awareness and and fun of the evening. 7 out of 10 weddings, you either cannot hear what the DJ is saying during announcements or what your family/friends are saying during toasts/speeches. If your guests can’t hear what is going on, they will get lost and eventually bored. We here at Book That DJ are also sound engineer qualified specialists. We understand the elements of proper sound function and acoustical elements. Entertaining hundreds of guests of all ages, tastes, and personalities is a very daunting task. It takes more than just music to pull off an epic wedding. Everything has to be perfect. The DJs Personality is one of the most important reasons for selecting a DJ. They have to be able to adapt to all of your guests and be “liked” by your guests in order for them to trust him/her with their fun.
This is your party. This is your celebration. This day is for you to enjoy yourselves. If you can maximize the tips in numbers 2-5 (especially #2), you will have much less stress about what is taking place throughout the evening and much more free time to enjoy yourselves. Everyone wants to see the bride and groom enjoying themselves. Eat, Drink (if you do), Dance, HAVE FUN! Your guests will follow your lead!
